White Card Course Outline
The unit of competency CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry (White Card) is a mandatory course designed to meet the compulsory training requirement for construction workers throughout Australia. This program has been developed under the direction and approval of the Department of Employment and Training (DET).
Who can enroll:
- New entrants in the construction workforce
- Workers, supervisors and managers working in construction, but do not have the Blue Card
- Individuals, who will undertake housing or construction work in the near future
Interstate Mutual Recognition
Queensland and Western Australia
Both Queensland and Western Australia recognise this course as meeting the mandatory training requirements for all construction workers to complete a Safety Induction course prior to entering a work-site.
Vic, NSW and South Australia
Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia do not recognise online training of this course
Northern Territory, Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania
Northern Territory, Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania have manditory training requirements in duty of care and occupational safety but have not decided on a manditory course requirement at this stage. Participants can complete the course and receive a statement of attainment but the induction cards cannot be issued to these states.

- Risk Management
- Principal contractor's safety plan
- Work method statements
- Material safety data sheets
- Basic emergency procedures such as first aid, evacuation plans and procedures
- Causes of fires and types of controls
- Reporting hazards to relevant persons at the workplace
- Obligations of principal contractor's employers, self-employed persons, workers and others
- Workplace Health and Safety Officers
- Duty of care under common law
- Workplace recording of work injuries, work caused illnesses and dangerous events
