RSG Course Outline
The unit of competency SITHGAM006A Provide responsible gambling services is a nationally accredited unit of competency and is part of the Hospitality Training Package SIT07 under the requirements of the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). There are no prerequisite courses required to undertake this Unit of Competency.
The unit of competency will teach you to:
- Provide responsible service of gambling
- Provide information and assistance to customers about gambling
- You will learn about the legislation that regulates the control of gambling in Australia and why this legislation is necessary.
This course is relevant to employees in the Hospitality Industry nationally, with the exception of NSW and Victoria who have specific training requirements. The 'Queensland Responsible Gambling Code of Practice' is explored in detail as an example of best practice.
Knowledge and skills from this course:
- The requirements of the legislation and code of practice in specific relation to responsible gambling practices, reasons for the legislation and the philosophy of harm minimisation.
- The profile of the gambling industry including its size and the impacts of gambling..
- The social and economic costs as well as the benefits of gambling.
- The resons for and the social impacts of gambling problems.
- The indicators of problem gambling.
- Suitable staff responses to persons affected by problem gambling and relevant industry codes of practice.
- The availability of counselling services for problem gamblers and associated referral procedures.

Please note that this course does not license you to be a gaming attendant. To do this you must apply seperately to the Gaming Commission in your state for a Gaming Licence or Special Employee Licence.
New South Wales and Victoria have specific training requirements, people from these states need to undertake the training approved by the relevant regulatory body.
